Your Guide For Rug Care

Cleaning, Care & Maintenance Guide

Here are some tips to help keep your rugs cleaner and last longer:

1. Vacuum your rugs on a regular basis. Woven rugs have an ability to hide dirt well. Don’t wait to vacuum until you actually see the loose soil. Make sure to vacuum in at least 2 different directions. If you are vacuuming with a machine that is equipped with a rotating brush, we suggest that your setting for the brush be just touching the top of the pile. Turning the rug over to vacuum the backside occasionally will not only keep the reverse side clean, it will also help to loosen trapped particulate on the front side of the rug. So, vacuum the backside 1st., flip the rug over and vacuum the front side. (Be sure to sweep the fallen particulate from the front side of the rug on the floor before laying the backside of the rug back down).

2. Rotate your area rugs. One or two times a year, especially when you notice traffic areas or your rug is starting to look dirty. Rotating the rug will allow it to wear more evenly and maintain the original appearance over time. Be aware that sunlight can also affect your rug’s colors and even sometimes cause the fibers to become brittle.

 3. Padding will stabilize and protect your area rug’s shape. It also makes for a softer feel and makes the rug safer to walk on.

 4. If the fringe on your rug starts to wear unevenly, you can easily trim it with a good pair of scissors.

 5. If the rug has curled you can relax the curled part by placing a damp, white towel over the area and place a warm steam iron on the towel for approximately 15 seconds at a time. After each 15 second interval, check the rug and rotate the damp white towel.

 6. If you plan to store your rugs for an extended period of time, we suggest you have the rugs cleaned first and then have them wrapped in kraft paper. The paper will protect the rug from dirt and dust at the same time allowing it to breathe.

A Purrfect Pet Treatment!

Kitty 9-19-14Removing pet urine from area rugs is a time consuming effort. There are companies that claim to remove pet odor effectively by using “enzyme treatments.” Well, to be honest, sometimes it works. The catch is that in order for an enzyme to be effective, it has to be alive for a period of time. Depending on the severity of the urine in the rug, that amount of time could be up to 5 days. Now if you have a hand made rug, you most likely would not want it sitting in a puddle of water for five days. The fibers could break down and the colors most likely will bleed. In addition, the natural fibers in the rug could promote the growth of mildew or mold.

We have found that a better idea for urine removal is to immerse the rug in water for a short period of time. Long enough to break down the lipids & grease in the urine but short enough so as to not allow damage to the rug fibers or color. At this point, the rug can be rinsed with fresh water and cleaned using an extraction vacuum process that lifts all the impurities from the rug and allows the rug to dry quickly.

The Price We Quote is the Price You Pay!

gold_dollar How many times have you had a contractor give you a quote and then change the price during the work?

Have you ever gone to a Brake service for the $99 special per axle only to find out (after they have dismantled your car) that they want to charge you $ hundreds more? I have. In fact, I was at a brake place 2 years ago where they lifted up my car, took off all four tires, unclipped the springs to the calipers and then told me in no uncertain terms that they couldn’t fix my brakes for less than $950.00. Really?  All I wanted was the front shoes replaced and the front rotors turned. Of course I turned them down but they made me wait quite a while for them to reassemble my vehicle. I left and found a reputable service company that did a good job for a fair price.

The point is, at Carpet Star of Texas, we go out of our way to give you the most accurate quote possible over the phone or by e-mail. No one likes games, pressure or dishonesty when it comes to their money.

Trapped!

Hand made area rugs have an incredible ability to hold and hide dust and dirt. Your area rug may have trapped accumulation as well. If you haven’t had your rug cleaned in a while, consider contacting Carpet Star. We will pick up your rug, deep clean, deodorize and return it to you in beautiful condition! http://www.carpetstar.net Check out our monthly specials!
